| According to the newest numbers from Nielsen Media Research, cable television penetration in American homes is at an all time 17-year low.
The percentage of cable household subscribers in the US fell from 64.1% in February 2006 to 61.3% in February of this year. Over the same period, the number of wired cable subscribers fell by 2.3 million, from 70.6 million to 68.3 million.
Nielsen estimates that direct broadcast satellite (DBS) delivery has now increased to 25.2% of all US households, up from 21% in February 2006.
