| The first DIRECT TV satellite TV 500 was held this past weekend (April 2, 2006) at the Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Virginia. The DIRECTV 500 is a NASCAR Nextel Cup stock car race. The race began in 1949 and is 263 miles via 500 laps. The race was renamed this year as the DIRECT TV 500 but has been known prior as Advance Auto Parts 500 (2004-2005), Goody's Body Pain 500 (1999-2000), Goody's Headache Powder 500 (1996-1998) and the Hanes 500 (1991-1995) just to name a few.
Tony Stewart won the first DIRECTV 500. Prior winners, under the prior race names, include Jeff Gordon (2006, 2005, 2003, 1997), Rusty Wallace (2004, 1996-1993), Bobby Labonte (2002) and Dale Jarrett (2001).
Clint Bowyer raced under #07 for DIRECT TV and placed 22nd - but did not finish. Bowyer completed 496 laps of the 500.
