| There are now more TVs in the average U.S. home than there are people according to a recent report from Nielsen Media Research.
The newest Nielsen Media Research report indicates that there are 2.73 TVs versus 2.55 people in the typical U.S. home.
Half of U.S. homes have three or more TVs, and only 19% have just one, Nielsen said. In 1975, 57% of homes had only a single set and 11% had three or more TVs.
Viewing time has also increased. In the average U.S. home, a TV set is turned on for more than a third of the day, approximately eight hours and fourteen minutes, Nielsen said. That's an hour more than it was a decade ago. The average person watches four hours, 35 minutes of TV each day, Nielsen reports.
