| In 2007, DIRECT TV satellite TV will be launching two new satellites! During 2007, this will give DIRECTV the ability to deliver 150 national HD channels, HD local channels in most homes, and new advanced programming services for both HD and Standard-Definition channels.
Local HD Channels – As of Oct 25, 2006 DIRECT TV is offering HD local channels in 45 markets, serving over 60% of U.S. homes. This is 13 more markets than DISH Network offers! By end of 2007 DIRECTV expects to offer HD locals in 90% of U.S. homes. That is 1,500 HD local channels throughout the U.S.!
National HD Channels – Currently DIRECT TV satellite TV carries 9 national HD networks and other HD programming such as ESPN, Discovery, TNT, and HBO-that's roughly the same as many cable systems. DIRECTV is the undisputed leader in HD sports programming! By end of 2007 DIRECT TV expects to have capacity for 150 national channels in HD - that's more than 3 times the expected capacity of most cable systems or DISH Network. DIRECTV plans to dominate the HD content arena including incredible exclusive and original entertainment available ONLY ON DIRECT TV. DISH Network may claim to have a few more, but those extras are not the most watched networks. Why pay for networks you don't want to watch?
